What the grammar checker looks for

It doesn’t flag slang, contractions, informal tone or British versus American spelling. Those are choices, not mistakes.

How to check your grammar

  1. Paste your text or start typing in the editor above. The first few checks each day are free with no sign-up.
  2. Click an underlined word to see the fix and why, then accept it. Or use Fix all.
  3. Copy the result, or keep writing: only the paragraphs you change are checked again.
  4. To check without daily limits, connect a free Prometey account (it takes a minute and works with free AI tiers).

Grammar checker or spell checker?

A spell checker only knows whether a word exists. A grammar checker reads the whole sentence, so it catches “we was”, “their are a few things” and “it costed us”, where every word is spelled correctly and the sentence is still wrong. ReadsHuman uses an AI model for this, so it understands context instead of matching fixed rules.

Check grammar in Gmail, LinkedIn and everywhere else

The ReadsHuman browser extension brings the same checks to every text box: email, chat, comments and forms. A small badge shows how many suggestions there are, and fixes go in as normal edits you can undo.

Everything you need to send it with confidence

Grammar, spelling, punctuation

Mistakes get underlined a moment after you stop typing: red for errors, blue for clumsy or unclear wording. Click one and accept the fix, or fix everything at once.

Rewrites in ten styles

Select a sentence or a whole draft and rewrite it to be clearer, more natural, more formal, simpler or shorter. You see which words changed before you replace anything.

In every text box

The browser extension checks what you type in email, chat, comments and forms, and puts a Rewrite button on any text you select.

How it works

  1. 1

    Connect your AI

Sign up for a free Prometey account and link an AI provider. Google, Groq, Mistral, OpenRouter and others have free tiers. Approve ReadsHuman once.

  2. 2

    Write as usual

When you pause, only the paragraphs you changed go off for a check, so it stays quick and light on your free limits. Click an underline to see the fix.

  3. 3

    Rewrite what needs it

Select a sentence, choose a mode and press Rewrite. Compare the new version with the old one, then replace it with one click.

Why it’s free

ReadsHuman doesn’t pay for AI, so it doesn’t charge for it. Checks and rewrites run on the AI you connect through Prometey, using free tiers or your own API keys. You can set a daily limit there and disconnect at any time.

Where your text goes

Once you’re connected, from your browser to Prometey and on to the AI provider you chose. During the free trial, it passes through ReadsHuman’s small trial service on its way to Prometey. Either way ReadsHuman stores none of it. Free AI tiers may log prompts, so don’t check anything confidential. Privacy policy.

Questions

Is ReadsHuman really free?

Yes. There’s no plan to buy. You can try a few checks and rewrites a day right away, with no sign-up. After that, the AI work runs on the provider you connect through Prometey, and several providers have free tiers that easily cover everyday writing. If you use paid API keys there, you pay that provider directly.

What is Prometey, and why do I need it?

Prometey is a free service that lets apps use AI providers you link to your own account. Connecting it lifts the trial’s daily limits, and you stay in control: you choose the provider, set a daily limit and can disconnect whenever you like.

What kinds of mistakes does it catch?

Spelling and typos, grammar (agreement, tense, articles, wrong word forms, missing words), punctuation and capitalization, wrong or unidiomatic words, and phrasing that’s confusing or very awkward. It leaves style choices, slang and British or American spelling alone.

How is the paraphrasing tool different from the grammar checker?

The grammar checker suggests small, specific fixes and keeps your wording. The paraphraser rewrites a sentence or a whole text in the mode you pick, from a light Fluency pass to Formal, Simple, Shorten or Expand. Both keep your facts, names and numbers.

Which sites does the extension work on?

Almost any site with a normal text box or rich editor: webmail, social networks, chat apps, CMS editors, forms and comment boxes. Editors that draw text on a canvas, such as Google Docs, aren’t supported yet.

Does it work in languages other than English?

Not yet. ReadsHuman is tuned for English, and checks in other languages may be unreliable.

Is my text stored anywhere?

Not by ReadsHuman. Your draft on this site is saved only in your browser. Text you check goes to Prometey and an AI provider to be processed (during the free trial, through ReadsHuman’s trial service, which keeps nothing). Free AI tiers may keep prompts, so read your provider’s terms.

How long can my text be?

Live checking works on texts up to 6,000 words, and one rewrite handles up to 3,000 words. For longer documents, select a part and work through it in pieces.

Write it once. Send it right.
